Family of Cachetmakers
I'm a long time stamp collector and my son (William III) is a graphic artist, web designer, and screen printer. In 1994, we combined my interest and his talent and started William III cachets. He silk screened his early cachets - which makes them a little different than most. His production greatly decreased with the start of his family in the past few year but watch for many new cachets from him in 2005. Few are available from recent issues. William won the AFDCS Rookie of the Year in 1994.
I started making my own cachets the next year in 1995. Mine are designed in Corel Draw and printed on my color ink jet. WII is printed on my cachets to identify them. I usually produce about 40-60 cachets for most issues. I won the AFDCS Earl Planty Award for the Best 1995 Rookie of the Year.
We both also do "add-ons". Cachets added after the FDC is created, when we can find blank unaddressed FDC's. So, you will find some FDC's w/ our cachets that were issued prior to 1994.
The family act continues....... my wife, Susan started her own line of cachets, too. She makes hers with rubber stamps. Her first cachet is for Cinco de Mayo issue. Frequently, she adds colors with pen and ink.
This is probably more than you ever wanted to know... but that is the brief story... we are a family of cachet makers. We merged an enjoyment of the hobby, stamp collecting with the business of meeting needs of fellow collectors.
